The Merry Month of May

May 1st... What is it about this day for me, that always makes me happy. May is just a happy month. All through my life, I took note of this day, as being special. Every single year, on this day, I write in my journal about what is going on in my life. And I always start it the same way... "It's the Merry Month of May". Maybe it's because my birthday is in a few days that would make this day seem special. Maybe because it signaled the last month of school, and with it the promise of summer vacation on its way. Now, I love that school will be over soon for my kids, and we can spend lazy summer days together.
Today is also the national day of prayer. I had a our bible study group over for a pot luck get-together. Our study ended a couple of weeks ago, and we wanted to get together to talk and visit with each other before the summer. We had a nice time, and after we ate and talked and talked some more, we all sat around my living room and prayed for our country. Afterward, I talked with an 87 yr. old lady named Ms. Dottie. She still goes on mission trips and has worked in child evangelism for 40 yrs. Three of us ladies sat around her as she shared what she says to the children when she shares the gospel with them. We all sat there like little children, enraptured in her obvious gift. She was so interesting, I got her number and asked to meet with her - to get just a hint of her wisdom.

I thought I would post a prayer from Ravi Zacharias:

2008 Prayer for Our Nation

Dr. Ravi Zacharias
2008 Honorary Chairman, National Day of Prayer Task Force

Holy Father, in a world where so many are hungry,
You have given us food in abundance;

In a world where so many are hurting,
You offer to bind up our wounds;

In a world where so many are lonely,
You offer friendship to every heart;

In a world longing for peace,
You offer hope.

Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant.
Have mercy upon us, Lord.

Our nation is at a crossroads this year;
we look to you to be our strength and shield.

Please give us the guidance to elect one who will honor you
and to respond to the wisdom from above
so that our hope may be renewed and our blessings be treasured.

In God's holy name.
